Thanks to Facebook folk for various kind comments (of course not shown here) on the unfolding low-and highlights of my current cycling trip home from Hungary, where day eight continues to have its ups and downs.
Along with my marbles (though I think I might have left those at home), today’s loss list is off at least lower value than smartphones, electric motors or super-sophisticated small cameras.
Just a toothbrush, a bike-bottle-washing brush, my (cheap, just four euros from Decathlon) sunglasses, plus my cherished metal camping spork (old friend, and a cross between spoon and fork).
The last objects, I promise, which will go AWOL between here and home – to which end, two maps in the photos below which show where I’ve travelled since leaving Tompa in Southern Hungary last Thursday, and also the planned route to Geneva from here.
If the universe so chooses to let it happen…
Nice break today at the Afritzer See just north of Villach in the Austrian Alps, with time for a swim and battery recharge on multiple levels, with 50km to go today in the thankfully 10-degrees less brutal heat.
It was 40 degrees yesterday, and in Klagenfurt I treated myself to a decent hotel room, upgraded by Ibis (I’m a member) to whole office suite. Rather nice, if costing as much as a new low-budget digital camera.
I’ve decided not to replace the Sony but to trust the Cat 75, which I think you’ll agree doesn’t do bad job. Despite having otherwise the sophistication of a Yorkie chocolate bar compared to best Belgian pralines.
